HoshiDict is an offline dictionary application that supports several different languages. HoshiDict is designed to have a clean, minimalist interface that makes searching for words quick and simple. Those familiar with HoshiDict for webOS will know that HoshiDict provides rapid search results with a very easy-to-use interface. The Windows Phone version of HoshiDict has the same goal: to make it easy to quickly look up words without being bothered by a complex user interface or unnecessary bells and whistles.

Dictionaries for HoshiDict are downloaded from within the application. Merely search for the dictionary that you want and the dictionary file will be downloaded and installed automatically (no messing with extracting archives or manually moving files is required). After a dictionary has been downloaded, there is no more need for a network connection, as the downloaded dictionary is stored on the phone and can be accessed at any time. This is very convenient for travelers who do not have access to a (affordable) cellular data connection.

The following dictionaries are available:

  • English-Chinese, Chinese-English
  • English-Czech, Czech-English
  • English-Modern Greek, Modern Greek-English
  • English-Spanish, Spanish-English
  • English-Portuguese, Portuguese-English
  • English-German, German-English
  • English-Russian, Russian-English
  • English-Japanese, Japanese-English
  • English-Croatian, Croatian-English
  • English-Finnish, Finnish-English
  • English-French, French-English

Adding support for additional dictionaries is planned. HoshiDict is now available for download at http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=f8fb565c-b465-4cc6-9771-4bb525951377.
